Lzzy Hale to young women: don't just be a superhero, be a female superhero!

Today is International Women's Day - a day we celebrate all of the badass women in our lives! In honor, Lzzy Hale of Halestorm wrote an article for Kerrang! magazine.

When Lzzy Hale was learning to sing and play music, she imitated men. That is until her mom introduced her to the "foremothers of rock". Joan Jett, Blondie, Stevie Nicks, Pat Benatar... It was then she realized that she had a voice of her own and she could use it to make her dreams a reality.

I’m eternally grateful to all of the female role models who recognise the importance of owning everything they are: from high heels to heavy metal. They were an integral part of me finding my place in this world. And now I get to be a role model for girls who are carving out their own paths behind me. I will be their North Star and not waste my time while I shine.

She wrapped up the article with a few words of encouragement to female fans:

In conclusion, and in honour of International Woman’s Day, I encourage all of my young ladies: Don’t just be a superhero, be a female superhero. Don’t just be a rock star, be a female rock star.
