PHIL COLLINS: Reveals New Health and Alcohol Issues
The full interview Phil Collins did with the BBC's Zoe Ball for the podcast series BBC Eras: Phil Collins won't be out until Monday, but they've shared some of the most interesting parts of that chat in advance. Collins goes deeper into detail about the knee issues that had him in the hospital last year.
"It's an ongoing thing. I have a 24-hour live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication, as I should do. I've had challenges with my knee. Everything that could go wrong with me did go wrong with me. I got COVID in hospital. My kidneys started to back up. Everything seemed to converge at the same time. I had five operations on my knee. Now, I've got a knee that works, and I can walk, albeit with assistance, crutches or whatever."
Collins also revealed that after the last Genesis tour that he faced problems with alcohol again.
"I'd probably been drinking too much, so my kidneys were messed up. I enjoyed coming off tour. Coming off the road, but I thought, right, I'm gonna do all those things that I couldn't do. So I stopped drinking at six o'clock in the evening. I wasn't one of those guys that stayed up all night drinking. I'd drink during the day, but I guess I had too much of it. I was never drunk, although I fell over a couple of times. But it is just one of those things that happened, and it all caught up with me, and I spent months in hospital." "The other day, Lindsay, my wonderful assistant secretary who does everything, came back with an inflatable two, and I said, 'Who's two?' And she said, 'No, it's two years since we had a drink.' It's just been a difficult, interesting, and frustrating last few years. It's all right now."
Collins also revealed that he's been working on some unfinished musical ideas and that he wants to do more in that vein. "The things that are ahead for me would be, apart from just being back to being totally mobile and healthy, is maybe go in there and have a fiddle about and see if there's more music. You tend to sort of feel, 'That's it, I've done that.' But you've gotta start doing it to see if you can do it. Otherwise, you don't do it. So that is something on my horizon..."I've got some things that are half-formed or were never finished, and a couple of things that were finished, which I like. So maybe life in the old dog. You'll see."
DEF LEPPARD: Time to "Rejoice" Def Leppard have released "Rejoice," their first new song since “Just Like 73,” featuring Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, in 2024. It's available now on all streaming platforms along with a lyric video on YouTube. Commenting on the song, singer Joe Elliott says, "I said to [guitarist] Phil [Collen] one day, ‘I’ve got this idea for a lyric where the narrator is at absolute rock bottom and wants to rise up to a higher level. Do you have a musical piece that might match with that?’ And he said, ‘As it happens, yes I do.’” The song comes as Def Leppard prepares for their next Las Vegas residency -- 12 shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace from Febriary 3rd through the 28th.

The frontman addressed his bandmates in a Facebook post saying congratulations to Rockette on his induction into the Metal Hall of Fame. He also noted that he will always have Poison and the Bret Michaels Band in his life, adding "bottom like - I love music, I love the fans, and I'm always forever grateful." He wrapped up his post writing "onward and upward and lets all focus on the positive in 2026, and the potential of a future reunion." THE DOORS, PUBLIC ENEMY: An Unlikely Combo
Public Enemy frontman Chuck D and The Doors drummer John Densmore have teamed up for a new project. They're billing themselves doPE, a combination of Doors and Public Enemy names that Chuck D sent to Desmore in an email after the pair met at a Record Store Day event in 2014. Their first album, No Country for Old Men, will be released as an exclusive for Record Store Day on April 18th. The duo's label says the album "blends spoken word, rhythm, and raw social commentary to bring together generations of rebellion and reflection." Dabbling in rock is nothing new for Chuck D -- Public Enemy teamed up with Anthrax for a rap-metal take on "Bring the Noise" in 1991 and he fronted Prophets of Rage, which included three members of Rage Against the Machine, from 2016 to 2019.
